The Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio, A Special Evening for the Granite State Music Festival
April 5th, 2013, from 7-9PM, GSMF presented a special evening to benefit the Granite State Music Festival, at Red River Theatres, Concord, NH. Food, beverages, fellowship, and music conjoined for an intimate evening gathering in support of this growing event to support the NH music scene.
This evening to benefit the 2013 Granite State Music Festival featured an intimate, live performance by the Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio. The trio had just completed recording of their debut album, with Grammy Award-winning sound engineer, Rob Griffin (engineer for Paco de Lucia, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, and many more) and made this special stop in Concord in the midst of their tour. "Virtuoso flamenco guitarist/composer/improviser Juanito Pascual has been called 'one of the hottest flamenco guitarists in recent years' by National Public Radio, a major accolade which in this case is just the jumping off point for the Minneapolis native's musical style. Pascual's latest project the Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio featured two highly versatile and dynamic musicians, Grammy-nominated percussionist Tupac Mantilla (Julian Lage Group, Bob Moses, Kenny Werner) and bassist Brad Barrett (Jason Moran, Ran Blake). Fusing their distinct musical backgrounds with a palpable personal chemistry, the Trio has created a distinctive and exhilarating sound. Currently, they are producing their first CD, scheduled for release in fall of 2013. Since the 2003 release of his debut solo recording "Cosas en Comun", Pascual's international touring schedule has brought him to venues including the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, New York's 92nd ST. Y and Blue Note Jazz Club, The Panama Jazz Festival and Madrid's renowned Casa Patas. He has performed with a lengthy 'who's who' of top flamenco artists from Spain and the U.S. in addition to collaborations with a diverse range of artists including Grammy-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw, bassist John Patitucci (of Chick Corea's Band), pianist Danilo Perez (of the Wayne Shorter Qt), percussionist Jamey Haddad (of Paul Simon's group), virtuoso guitarist Grisha Goryachev, and many others. |
